One Ticket. Use It.
I open in the staging lane. Engine idling, tree about to drop. Then I tell your room the truth: I’ve had five careers, I’m a proud Gen-X, and I’m just getting started. Every time I reinvented myself I brought something from the last chapter with me. Nothing was wasted. Then I hand them the pattern so they can do it too.
What I name outloud:
- The fear of looking foolish – Starting over feels like admitting failure. It isn’t. It’s evidence of range.
- The age lie – Who decided 50 was a deadline? The culture did. Reality didn’t. Your ticket has no expiration date printed on it.
- The presentation gap – Plenty of people have the goods and can’t say it out loud. They freeze in interviews and shrink in meetings. I fix that part.
Five careers. Five steps. Not a coincidence.
Inspiration wears off by the parking lot. A system doesn’t. Every room leaves with the same five steps I’ve used every time I started over.
Inventory your receipts.
Every skill, every industry, every role. Nothing is too small or too old to count.
Find the thread.
What runs through all of it? That's your brand. That's your ticket.
Kill the age story.
"It's too late" becomes "I have more data than anyone in this room."
Own the room.
Say your story out loud. Record it. You already know how to spot the flaws.
Make the move.
